The EuroMillions draws take place on Tuesday and Friday every week in Paris, and the bets can be validated until 08:30 p.m. the same day of each draw. In order to play, you can choose between stamping a coupon/ticket to play a draw, playing weekly using the same combination, or playing 2 weeks with the same combination to increase your chances to win.
To make a SINGLE BET, you must choose five numbers from 1 to 50, and two lucky stars between the numbers 1 and 12. You can make up to five bets in the same ticket.
If you would like to increase your chances of winning a prize, you can make a MULTIPLE BET, ticking up to 10 numbers from 1 to 50, and up to 5 stars numbered 1 to 12. It is not necessary to guess all the chosen numbers; by guessing the 5 numbers and the 2 stars, you win the first prize. As these are multiple bets, the prizes will also be multiple.
If you don’t have a preference for any particular combination of numbers, you can play randomising your numbers and the ticket numbers will be randomly selected automatically.
The exact probability of winning the first prize of EuroMillions is one in 139,838,160 and the probability calculation is explained as follows:
But don’t be put off by this! We are going to give you a number of tips to balance the lucky scale to your favour.
As this is a luck game, in Euromillones there are no magic formulas to become a multimillionaire, but there are a number of guidelines based on maths and common sense that can help you get the fortune goddess more on your side.
Keep on reading and take notes.
Due to this being a game of luck, the probability of even and odd numbers being drawn out is the same, and therefore the ideal bet should have three odd numbers and two even numbers or two odd numbers and three even numbers among the 5 numbers chosen. By doing this and applying the maths, the probability patterns will be as follows:
Statistically, the first two options are better to choose the 5 numbers among the possible 50, while the worse choices would be choosing only even numbers or only odd numbers.
With regards to the stars, the ideal scenario is to choose one even number and one odd number.
Although sometimes two or more consecutive numbers may be drawn out, statistically the probability of this happening is a lot lower than the draw of non-consecutive numbers. That´s why we recommend that you choose unsuccessive numbers.
Although theoretically all the numbers have the same probabilities of being drawn out, the statistics show that some numbers and stars are drawn out more frequently than others. Statistically, the most frequently drawn out numbers in the Euromillones are 4, 19, 23, 37, 44 and 50; and the most repeatedly drawn out stars are 2, 3 and 8. On the other hand, the numbers that are drawn out with the least frequency are 22, 33, 41, 46 and 47; and the least repeated stars are 4 and 12.
Why is it a good strategy to choose between the numbers that are drawn out the most? EuroMillions follows the same law as all the lottery games: the “Law of the big numbers”, which we are explaining below:
The information provided by the Law of the Large Numbers can help any player of EuroMillions or any other lottery understand how the draws work from a broad perspective. In doing so, this law helps to create the most advantageous combinations long-term, as big draw cycles are analysed.
Does this mean that if I make a bet on the 5 numbers and the 2 stars that are drawn out the most, I will definitely guess it right one day? Of course not, but you should certainly take into account what the statistics show when choosing some of your numbers. Guessing the first prize of Euromillones is a remote probability, but with some mathematical help and perseverance, everything is possible!
To play in groups or as a group increases the chances of winning EuroMillions. To form groups providing a weekly or monthy sum to play together allows to seal tickets of more bets and encourages playing regularly, hence increasing the chances to win a prize.
Thanks to group games, on 8 September 2020 a group of 14 friends in Mayorga (Valladolid) won a jackpot of 144 million Euros!
Playing multiple bets significantly increases the chances of winning a very good prize, as each number selected on top multiplies the number of bets.
EuroMillions allows to seal from 3 up to 2,520 bets in just one ticket (something that is only achievable by forming big groups), but in one ticket of multiple bets, the chances of winning a good prize increase significantly and, in case of winning a big prize, several lower category prizes are also dragged along. The more bets made, the more the quantity of lower prizes will be multiplied if a major prize is won.
This is the perfect option for groups or for people who can afford to seal tickets of quantities bigger than those of the minimal bet. For instance, if a group of 7 friends seals a multiple bet of 7 numbers and 2 stars, the price of the ticket will be €52.50 (21 bets), but the probability of guessing is multiplied by 21, that is, it is much easier to guess it right than it is to guess the Bonoloto!
EuroMillions is played every Tuesday and Friday, but Friday is the day when most tickets are sealed. Because of this, most prizes and more than 80% of the jackpots are given away on Friday: the more tickets are sealed, the bigger the chances of guessing the winning combination.
However, playing the EuroMillions on both days significantly increases the chances of winning a prize due to the following reasons:
Perseverance is one of the best tips we can give you to win a big prize.
Last March, there was a very much talked-about case of a young couple from the UK. The girl is only 19 years old and the boy is 21, and they lost the historic jackpot of 210 million Euros for not sealing their bet that day. The couple subscribed online to the two weekly Euromillones draw, and they had been playing the same winning combination for several weeks. When the young girl checked her numbers and saw that she had the winning combination, she could not believe it and she almost had a heart attack thinking that she and her boyfriend were multimillionaires… But that same week her user account run out of funds to pay for their weekly Euromillones bet, and therefore their bet was not processed and the ticket was not validated.
If you have read everything up to here, now you know: follow the tips that we have given you, be disciplined and persistent, and sooner or later luck will be on your side!
Playing with us online, you will receive your ticket validation notifications, we will notify you of whether you have won a prize and we will credit your prize in your user account, and if you subscribe to EuroMillions we will inform you of the end of your subscription… We don’t want the same that happened to that couple from the UK to happen to you!
