What is the Christmas lottery about?

The Christmas lottery is not just the most important lottery draw in our country, but the most important in the whole world!

It´s special feature is that it is the only draw where the drawing of the prizes is made by using and combining two draw drums, one for the 100,000 numbers that come into play and another one for the prizes. For this reason, this is the longest draw of all, which can last up to 3 hours when the kids from San Ildefonso take turns to pull out the winning numbers.

Another differentiating aspecto of this national lottery draw in Spain is the well-known “pedrea”. This consists of the €1,000 that the kids from San Ildefonso sing along the numbers until they get the “Gordo” prizes.

This draw has been running since 1812 and has given away a multitude of prizes across Spain, with Madrid winning the highest number of prizes.
